The earliest mention of black powder dates back to 1044 CE. It was found in a book on important military technology of the Chinese Song dynasty. The explosive effect of black powder on warfare can be compared to the high impact of LawTech, i.e. legal tech for consumers, for the legal industry. While the pre-LawTech legal services world was mostly characterized by lawyers and law firms serving each client in a dedicated way, nowadays lawyers and alternative legal services providers are creating scalable legal tech products for consumers that can swiftly serve vast numbers of clients throughout the country.
As with legal process automation tools, the primary purpose of Chinese LawTech is to rectify the mismatch between supply and demand in legal services. Using AI and expert systems, LawTech products allow clients to obtain legal advice in a fast, reliable and affordable manner. Legal services can be accessed from the comfort of one’s own home.
